Ladies Festivals in Rouen

Capital city of Upper Normandy, known as the city of 100 bells because so many churches punctuate its skyline. Its many half timbered houses, some leaning across narrow streets, have been restored to give the city a real sense of the middle ages. There are particularly attractive ensembles around the Old Market Square, where Joan of Arc was burnt at the stake in 1431.

The city's most popular attraction is the Rue du Gros-Horloge, the pedestrianised street with fine old buildings and the beautiful Gros-Horloge itself, a single handed clock mounted above a beautifully decorated Renaissance arch. Here you have an excellent array of shops, restaurants and bars.

Although 80 miles inland, the Seine River, which flows through the city, makes Rouen one of France's major ports. If you have the time a boat trip on the Seine is a must.

You have a choice of two hotels in the city. The 3* superior Mercure is located in the city centre overlooking the Seine river. Rouen's excellent Sunday morning market is just 5 mins walk from this hotel. It is an excellent hotel, renowned for its wine list. The 3* Novotel is located in the southern suburbs with a hypermarket next door. Both hotels have en-suite facilities, colour TV, mini bar and direct dial telephone.
